Some Summer Pictures

Here are a few cute pictures from the summer.  The first are from a few weeks back when we had to go to the ER late one night because Owen was having a tough time breathing.  Just to make sure all was fine, the doctor wanted us to take him to Vanderbilt just to have him checked out.  These pictures are particularly funny to me because he looks like he is at a 5 star resort or something.  He was lounging around like the king of the castle or something.

The next pictures are from when we went to visit a family member in the hospital.  Aunt Hannah came to get him and took him to the gift shop and got him this awesome Elmo balloon.  When he picked it, we had no idea that it was life size that walked next to you.  He thought this was pretty cool.

He turned quite a few heads in the hospital with this.  He pulled that Elmo all over the place.

Making up for lost Time...

Not sure how it is possible that I haven't written anything in two months, but the time has just flown by.  I have so much to write about to catch up on what we've been up to lately.  The last few months of summer were scorching hot, which kept us in most days.  It seems like we have been running around like chickens with our heads cut off.  We spend our days busy with work and our nights trying to make up for the time lost during the days.

It doesn't seem possible for the summer to be over.  And now, here we are at the start of fall counting down until Owen turns two and waiting for Santa to come down the chimney.  As always, we have been blessed with all good things and feel lucky to have such good things to share when it comes to our lives and families.

A big event of the summer was Wade's grandmother came in for a visit from Kansas.  This is something she does every summer and we always look forward to seeing her. It had been a year since she saw Owen last, so you can imagine the changes she saw.  They were both the first ones up in the mornings and spent that time playing and talking.  Wade and I are thankful that Owen has the chance to know his great-grandmother and it will mean so much one day.

As well as spending time with Owen's great grandmother, we were able to make several visits up to the farm to see Aunt Becky, which is always so nice.  Owen gets to get out and act like a real little country boy when we are there.  She is his great-great-aunt and is very special to me.  I am lucky to have had a close and personal relationship with her since I was about 11.  She is someone that I admire and the one person I turn to when I am looking for answers.

She is compassionate and honest as the day is long and there's no beating around the bush when you ask her for her opinion.  She is the only person I know who loves me enough to tell me the truth, even when the truth hurts.  And when I'm lost and am having a hard time finding my way, she is there to help me find my path.  She has taught me so much about life and how it takes responsibility to live the life you dream.  There are no promises and you only get out what you put in.

I love it when Owen gets to spend time with her.  In these pictures, she was letting him play in her soapy dish water and you can tell by the look on his face that he LOVED it!

Owen with his cousin Peirce.

Something else new since I last wrote is Owen's new love of TRAINS!  He thinks they are so cool and will sit and play with them forever.  In fact, this new love has become the inspiration for his next birthday party.  So, we are going to have a train party to celebrate his 2nd birthday.  I'm excited, but I am really sad too.  I feel like I remember every day of his first year, but this second one just snuck up on me and I'm not ready to give it up.  I realize I have no control, but I do in fact have two months until the big event to soak him up and cope with the fact he is growing up too fast.

Brushing Teeth

We got a new toothbrush and it was a BIG deal!  It is Spiderman with the spin brush.  Owen has been brushing his teeth for a while now, but I felt like this would get him a much deeper clean.  And if nothing else, it definitely gets him excited about brushing.  I love these pictures so much.  I think he looks so big standing up there.  In fact, the stool he uses to stand on was his great-great grandmothers, which I find pretty neat.

My Favorite of All....He looks so cute looking at himself

So Stinkin' Cute . . .

Here a few snapshots from the past couple of weeks of Owen just doing what he does best.

And finally, Owen and Pepaw Clowning Around as Usual

Big Boy Bed Dilemma

For the past few weeks, we have begun to notice a slight issue with him staying in his own bed.  He doesn't cry or anything, he just doesn't stay in his bed.  This is by far one of the most unbelievable things I've witnessed thus far.  One night about 3 hours after being put to bed, this is what Wade found while going around and turning off the lights to get ready to go to bed.

He had probably been here for a couple of hours before we found him.  My guess is that he was eavesdropping and fell asleep and blew his cover.  So now, we have started locking the gate to make sure that there aren't any accidents in the middle of the night.  But, now we find him every morning sleeping behind the gate.  Sometime between bedtime and morning, he gets up and ends up there.

We are currently trying to resolve the problem.  The only thing we can think of is putting a child safety doorknob cover on the inside of his door so he can get out of his room.  Not sure how it will all work out, but I'll be sure to keep you posted.

Playing Catch-Up

So, it's hard to know where to start.....I am way behind and have so much to catch up on.  Not sure where the last month has gone, but somewhere between July 4th and now, I've lost track of time and have failed to blog about anything.  However, to my defense, my notebook crashed which put me behind a week.

First things first, Owen went and spent an entire week with Memaw and Pepaw the second week in July.  Wade and I spent most of our evenings doing things that were wild and crazy, such as going out for ice cream after 9 pm and having dinner out with friends.  It's strange the things you take for granted before you have kids.

The house was quiet without him, but we knew he was in good hands and was glad that he got the chance to spend some time with Memaw and Pepaw.  We count our blessings and are thankful for all they do for each of us.  Owen is so crazy about the two of them and one day he will have the greatest childhood memories of what it was like to be loved by his grandparents.

Luckily, since I couldn't be there in person, Memaw was kind enough to share some pictures from their week together.  Thank you for taking such good care of our little guy, although I never expect anything less.

Fireworks!

We were in my hometown visiting my Aunt Becky on the 4th this year.  It was awesome to get to see her, as well as, getting to go watch the local firework show in the new park in town.  We loaded up our chairs, a few snacks, and a blanket and headed to the park to watch the fireworks.

I personally enjoyed it very much because Owen snuggled right up in between my legs on the blanket and watched the entire show with me; it was perfect. The sound didn't scare him at all.  Instead, he just kept pointing and saying, "Pop!" with every one.  It was pretty stinking cute!

It was so nice to get to spend some time with Aunt Becky.  She is one special woman and I am so thrilled that she gets to be a part of Owen's life. The evening was perfect, and it was very entertaining watching Owen experience the 4th in a whole new way.
